The White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) supports the Drug Free Communities (DFC) Program, which provides grants to community-based coalitions to strengthen the infrastructure among local partners to create and sustain a reduction in local youth substance use. Recognizing that local problems need local solutions, DFC-funded coalitions engage multiple sectors of the community and employ a variety of environmental strategies to address local substance use problems.

Hidden in Plain Sight |
LEAD Phillipsburg and Warren Hills Community Coalition present: HIDDEN IN PLAIN SIGHT. The Hidden in Plain Sight video provides participants with a digital version of a mock teen bedroom set-up to explain various trends of teen substance use, signs, symptoms, and lingo in an effort to raise awareness about substance use disorders. Keely Rehman, LEAD Phillipsburg Project Coordinator, and Sarah Lake, Warren Hills Community Coalition Project Coordinator, are both prevention specialists who review where to look in the mock bedroom, what to look for if substance use is already suspected, and what to do if substance paraphernalia are found.
Hidden in Plain Sight will also be made available at various public events to provide participants an opportunity to explore a mock teen's bedroom on their own before the prevention specialist reviews it with them. The experience provides resources and tools for parents and community members to identify further prevention tips, programs, and services available in Warren County.

On Friday, October 24th, in partnership with the Phillipsburg High School Athletic Department, the LEAD Phillipsburg Coalition took National Red Ribbon Week messaging from the educational setting to the social setting. Choosing to refuse substances and living a healthy lifestyle cannot be simply preached in a classroom, but it must be infiltrated into every part of our community!
As the Stateliners took on the Panthers, LEAD Phillipsburg handed out custom-made garnet sunglasses and other prevention education giveaways in observance of #RedRibbonWeek.
BUT, that's not all...
- The Cheer Team wore the sunglasses AND included Red Ribbon Week messaging on the giant banner the Football Team ran through!
- LEAD Phillipsburg hung posters near the student entrance highlighting the misconception that the majority of High School students engage in substance misuse and recognizing students leading substance-free lives!
- The Band showed their support by wearing sunglasses throughout the game!
- Youth Volunteers helped hand out sunglasses and bracelets to their peers while representing the iLEAD Youth Coalition!
- The Student Section cheered on the Stateliners with their sunglasses and bracelets while supporting Red Ribbon Week AND Breast Cancer Awareness month!
Important announcements about #RedRibbon Week were made during the game at Maloney Stadium AND on the livestream to ensure messaging reached as many individuals as possible!
SO many collaborating partners helped bring this initiative to the forefront under the Friday Night Lights...Special thanks to PHS Athletic Director Kyle Fleming, Cheer Coach Kayla Valle, Band Director Adam Josephson, Football Coach Frank Duffy, Maloney Stadium Announcer Sam Lavalva, and the LEAD Phillipsburg Coalition (including Superintendent Troxell, Chief Goodell, Yvette Day, April Poretta, Bill Benz, Robyn Coe-Donaldson, Rhonda Thomas-Boothe, Ellen Denizard, Catholic Charities, St. Luke's University Health Network, Center for Family Services, DASACC, Kelly Post-Sheedy, and Keely Rehman). Teamwork truly makes the dreamwork!
Also, a special thank you to Coalition Member, Yvette Day, for getting a great photo of the amazing banner designed by the Cheer Team!
