The Board of Directors hosted the 33rd Annual Banquet on Sept. 12, 2024 at the Firth Youth Center in honor of the 70th year of service to the children of Phillipsburg!
How do we even describe the level of support & love that #FILLEDtheFIRTH on September 12th?!? It was incredible, absolutely incredible.
At "home" and in front of a sold-out crowd, we were able to dedicate the Banquet to a man who provided 35-years of service to the FYC, properly honor our deserving award recipients, praise several key volunteers, and share beautiful memories made with the kids over the past year. Guests were greeted by some of our All-Stars and enjoyed the 2024 Talent Show Award-Winning Cheer Routine. Plus, a special emcee, Zyh'mir, who stole the show before the Cheerleaders' flawless performance! Before relinquishing the mic, Zyh'Mir gave Mr. Jeff one more dig, "You're lucky this is a school night... otherwise I'd take over this whole gig!" At just 13 years old, he had a room of 250+ guests in the palm of his hand!
Then, with the help of only a select few FYC Staff, former FYC All-Star Kid, turned Camp Counselor, turned U.S. Marine Corp Sergeant Larry Bobson surprised Board President Jeff Russo and Miss Meghan! Mr. Larry took the red-eye from North Carolina to attend the historic event!
While wrapping up his opening remarks, Board President Russo, gave the FYC Staff the proper praise they so deserve. As photos of all 39 staff members in action and quotes about each written by the kids scrolled on the huge screens, Russo shared, "Up on the screen, and in this room today, you all are the individuals who inspire, support, encourage, lift-up the P’burg kids today." The room erupted in applause for the TEAM!
The Banquet continued with presentations and speeches by Award Recipients that were heart-warming and our Emcee/Board President didn’t skip a beat with his off-the-cuff one-liners. The common theme noted by all who took the podium was: service above self!
Before closing out the event with the video the kids help make each year, entitled, "What I Love About the FYC!" Executive Director, Kelly Post-Sheedy, encouraged guests to take a look at the History Chronology in the Brennan Family Multipurpose Room. Stating, "The FYC was initially erected and has been sustained the last 70 years due to volunteerism. Local residents, organizations, and companies… stepping up, working together, and advancing the mission of Firth Youth Center… for generations of kids. It is truly an honor and privilege to work for an institution built by the people of Phillipsburg for the children of Phillipsburg."
Once again, THANK YOU to our 35 Premiere Level Sponsors, 57 "Friends of the Firth" Program Sponsors, raffle prize & auction donors (especially Michele Cook!), Banquet Committee Members, devoted Board Members, Staff, kiddos, and, last, but certainly not least, the 259 individuals who took the time out of their schedule to celebrate the FYC in a jammed packed 3-hour affair! We are humbled, grateful, and still on cloud 9!
