Support FYC. Support Children.
From the Executive Director
Dear Firth Youth Center Community,
As 2021 winds down, we cannot help but reflect upon all the incredible individuals, selfless volunteers, small businesses, collaborating non-profits, and local companies who have supported the Firth Youth Center throughout the past year. Despite ever-changing regulations and the uncertainty surrounding COVID-19, hundreds of children utilized the FYC and, simply put, it would not have been possible without our supportive community. Whether it was for After School Care, High School Drop-In Nights, Summer Camp, Middle School Expansion hours, homework help, athletic competitions, School Closure Activities, Cooking Classes, or any other reason to visit, it felt amazing to finally RE-FILL the Firth after an incredibly challenging and stressful 2020!
As you may know, Tuesday, November 30th is coined "Giving Tuesday." This day is a global initiative, where citizens are asked to consider supporting local non-profits following Black Friday and Cyber Monday splurges. In the past, we've created Amazon Wish Lists with recreation and craft supplies for the kids. However, this year, we want to keep all contributions received local! We've connected with several businesses that we patronize throughout the year. For example, we'll visit Ice Cream Junction to treat our kids to ice cream trips on warm days, order Rocco's Pizza as a reward for our High Schoolers who show the FYC Staff & building so much respect, and constantly make trips to ShopRite of Greenwich for healthy, fresh snacks for After School Care and Drop-In kiddos. To fund these special treats, we use unexpected donations we receive throughout the year. However, that funding could be used elsewhere such as adding more programs, covering rising utility bills, or anything else to keep the FYC operational 12-months of the year. Therefore, we humbly ask our FYC Faithful to keep the FYC in mind for #GivingTuesday and consider making restricted donations for us to purchase gift cards to these local businesses.
Through this initiative, you'll support the FYC, support some Phillipsburg businesses, and give our kids some extra rewards and fun throughout the year!
We have big plans for 2022! We plan to offer more diverse programs, extend hours with substance use prevention initiatives, make building improvements, facilitate character building education programs, host parent-child workshops, and more. No matter what we do though, our team will continue to adapt to meet the needs of the children of Phillipsburg! For nearly 70 years, this building has been a sanctuary to thousands of vulnerable youth, many of whom have returned to "pay it forward" for the positive role the Center played in their own lives. Now, more than ever, youth need a safe, supervised, nurturing environment to express themselves as they develop into responsible young men and woman.
From the bottom of my heart, I am forever grateful for the many ways we receive support each day and humbly ask that you consider our 2021 #GivingTuesday initiative!
